Ruby Wax: Mindfulness & Meditation practitioner

Despite the vast amounts of research and newspaper articles about depression and similar conditions, there is still a huge stigma attached to admitting to mental health struggles – but hearing that celebrities feel the same as the rest of us and take appropriate action when needed will surely inspire you to seek help if required.
Comedienne Ruby Wax, for example, makes sure that she practices mindfulness techniques each and every morning, explaining to the Daily Telegraph that she meditates for 20 minutes each day.
“This involves letting my garbage go through my brain but always bringing my focus to my breathing,” she remarked. “I try to do it every morning, or failing that I do it in a taxi or on a train.”
Mindfulness and meditation can go a long way to helping you navigate your way through daily life and if you’re feeling as though it’s all getting a bit too much at the moment, it’s certainly worth giving it a go.
A recent study by the University of Oxford found that after just one month of practicing mindfulness, and in particular meditation, people reported reductions in depression, stress and anxiety levels.
There’s no shame in finding modern life hard and so many people do. Through meditation and being mindful simply teaches you to pay more attention to the present through techniques like yoga and breathing, showing you how to become more aware of your own thoughts and feelings so you can handle them better and don’t get overwhelmed.
As well as helping with depression, anxiety and stress, the meditation can also be used to treat addiction and help with conditions like heart disease, hypertension and chronic pain.
FISU Meditation has taught meditation which includes practices that create mindfulness naturally for the last 40 years.
